Established in 1997, Sona College of Technology or SCT is a private autonomous engineering college which is affiliated to Anna University, Chennai. Situated in the Salem city, Sona College of Technology is accredited with NAAC Grade ‘A’. The college offers undergraduate degree programs majorly in engineering and technology.
The college offers more than 26 courses in programs such as B.E. / B.Tech, M.E./M.Tech.
The undergraduate degree programs that are offered are in various disciplines including mechanical, civil, information technology, electronics and communication, electrical and electronics, and fashion technology.

Sona of Technology Admission :
BTech Admission :
Higher secondary/intermediate academic or equivalent Eligibility :
- 50% aggregate percentage in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry in class 12th examinations. (45% for BC, 40% for MBC, SC/ST)
Higher Secondary / intermediate vocational or equivalent Eligibility :
- 50% in Maths or Physics or Chemistry & Vocational Subjects put together. (45% for BC, 40% for MBC, SC/ST)
BE/BTech courses Lateral Entry Eligibility :
- 55% in Pre-Final & Final Semester. (50% for BC, 45% for MBC, SC/ST)
Applicants from other states would be known as O.C. Regardless of their community when recognizing the minimum admission marks.
Sona College of Technology selects candidates on the basis of Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions (TNEA) Counselling governed by the Anna University, for admission into the 4 year BTech programs.
TNEA Admission Process
Candidates can submit the application form or apply for admissions through TNEA either in person or through the post from Anna University or online from the official website of Anna University.
Candidates must attach photocopies of mark sheets, age proof, and copies of required certificates at the official address :

The final merit list followed by the TNEA rank list is prepared on the basis of the following factors:
- Percentage of marks in Mathematics
- Percentage of marks in Physics
- Percentage of marks in Chemistry
- Percentage of marks in the 4th optional subject
- Date of birth (preference is given to older candidates)
- Based upon the overall rating, community-wise and region-wise, the TNEA rank list is issued.

Application Process :
The candidates can fill the application forms in the online mode in order to apply for admission into SCT. Candidates are then required to pay the required application fee through any of the available payment methods or through DD in favor of “The Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admissions, Anna University”.

Selection Procedure
The selection process is purely provisional and is subject to the confirmation from the Anna University, Directorate of Technical Education, Chennai, and All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), New Delhi.
Candidates must have studied the subjects in the English medium / English as a subject in a degree program, otherwise, the student has to undergo an English Language course on the campus for at least 6 months.
Eligibility :
- Minimum 50% marks for candidates belonging to FN / PIO / Children of Indian workers in Gulf countries.
- Minimum 50% each in Mathematics, Physics & Chemistry.
- Applicants should have studied in English Medium / as one of the subjects in the qualifying test
- For admission to BE/BTech. Courses, candidates must complete 12 years of schooling (equivalent to the 10+2 system of Indian Education) with good grades in the respective international system of education.

Visa Requirements
Candidates must produce a valid student visa issued by Indian missions abroad at the time of admission.

Merit Scholarship
For students of the first year BE/BTech/ME/MBA/MCA on the basis of cut off marks / TANCET score / MAT score.
Includes tuition Fee Waiver of Rs 10,000 to Rs 40,000 p.a.
Only those students are eligible for the scholarship who :
- have no arrear in the previous year(s) exams.
- A minimum of 95 percent attendance in the previous year(s) in the regular classes and class/model tests/exams.
- academic results within the top 10% in the branch.
Merit cum Means Scholarship
Includes tuition Fee Waiver of Rs 5,000 to Rs 10,000 p.a.
Students of BE/BTech/ME/MBA/MCA are eligible whose :
- Parental annual income (Father & Mother) or Guardian should not exceed Rupees One Lakh per annum.
Students other than the first year will be required to fulfill the following conditions.
- should not have any arrears in any of the subjects.
- 95% overall class attendance in the previous year.
- students selected for this scholarship must contribute 8 hours/month for Library /Admission/students’ affairs/Laboratory/ Cleaning of the class room/ Sports assistance etc.
Sports Scholarship
