On December 31, 1998, under the chairmanship of Ashesh Prasad Mitra, Eminent Scientist, the Government of West Bengal set up an expert committee to explore the need and scope for the establishment in the state of West Bengal of an Engineering / Technology University.
The University formally entered into action with the assumption of the office of First Vice-Chancellor on January 15, 2001, following the promulgation by the West Bengal Legislature of THE WEST BENGAL UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY ACT, 2001, under West Bengal Act XV of 2000. The University began its academic program in July 2001, following notification in June 2001 from the Department of Higher Education, Government of West Bengal, via the affiliation of Engineering and Management Institutions / Colleges, and entered its eighteen-year cycle of service. The University is included in Section 2F and also in UGC and UGC Grant recipient Section 12B.

The infrastructure of IMS Business School
IMS Business School at Roypur, Ghutiary Sharif Station Road, P.O. Champahati, P.S. Sonarpur, District: 24 Parganas (South) is a two-story building at 20,000 sq. Area ft. (approx.) Both campuses have high-rise towers, state-of-the-art laboratory, insightful and renovated library, auditorium, large community room, hygienic canteen, administrative room, cell and conference room placement, etc.
Computer Lab: All the colleges’ data laboratories are completely fitted with the new models. The computer labs of both the colleges are fully equipped with the latest models.
There are 100 PCs with LCD monitors well connected to LAN and the Internet via server.
Library: Both libraries are completely loaded with thousands of textbooks, numerous national and international management and technology journals, magazines, e-books, e-journals, etc.
Canteen: The canteen is well run, tidy, and hygienic, supplying students with diverse eating habits with food & snacks.
Auditorium & Machine Room: All rooms with natural views are well ventilated, as are computer labs with tube light, appropriate fans, etc. The LED is completely air-conditioned in the auditorium and computer spaces.

About Vocational Course
As part of college/university education, the AICTE has introduced a skills acquisition scheme focused on higher education, leading to a Bachelor of Vocation (B.Voc.) degree with several exits, such as a Certificate / Advanced Diploma under the NSQF. The B.Voc. the curriculum focuses on universities and colleges offering undergraduate studies which, along with broad-based general education, will also include unique job roles and their NOSs.
This would allow B.Voc. to be completed by graduates. To make significant participation of knowledge in accelerating India’s economy by acquiring suitable jobs, becoming entrepreneurs, and developing suitable knowledge.
Course Objective
- Providing a judicious combination of skills specific to career and relevant General Education material.
- To ensure that students have ample knowledge and skills to be ready for work at each exit point of the program.
- To provide students with versatility by means of pre-defined entry points and multiple exit points.
- Integration of NSQF into higher education at the undergraduate level in order to increase graduate employability and meet industry requirements. These graduates are also expected to be trained to become part of the global workforce, in addition to meeting the needs of local and national industries.
- To provide vertical versatility with vocational subjects for students coming out of 10 + 2.
40 percent of theory lectures and 60 percent of practical sessions are required for all courses. The curriculum of the course is entirely online with the structure of the NSFQ.
