WHAT AFTER NEET 2024: COURSES, CUTOFF, COUNSELLING AND ADMISSION PROCESS

NEET 2024 was conducted on 5th May. NTA is going to release the provisional answer key for NEET 2024 in the first week of June. The tentative result date for NEET 2024 is 14th June.

Students spend all of their energy on the NEET preparation process and once the exam is over, they remain clueless about the next round of procedures, leading to a common doubt “WHAT AFTER NEET “. 

Students remain unaware of the courses offered under NEET,  admission process, counselling. • WHAT AFTER NEET 2024? INTRODUCTION TO NEET

National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) is a single-level national exam carried out for medical aspirants to seek admission in medical courses across different medical institutes in India.

NEET prevents the private medical colleges from conducting any entrance examination of its own, bringing uniformity in the admission process for the medical colleges in India.

• DETAILED SEQUENCE OF EVENTS AFTER THE EXAMINATION

The following table provides detailed description of the events conducted post NEET exam –

 

EVENT	DESCRIPTION
Provisional answer key	Candidates match their answers with provisional answer key provided by NTA and calculate their marks
Raising objections	Candidates can file objections in case of any mistakes found in the answer key, backed up by correct evidence
Final answer key	NTA releases a final version of the answer key after considering objections. No further changes are made to the final answer key and eventually it is used for evaluation process of NEET
NEET Result	Answer sheets are evaluated and results are uploaded on the NTA NEET official website. Results are checked by candidates by entering their application ID and password
NTA	NTA prepares a merit list of candidates, ranking them  based on the marks obtained in the NEET. This list is used for the admission process of AIQ counselling. NTA shares the same details with the state counselling for their admission process. Here the role of NTA ends
NEET Counselling	The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) announces the NEET counselling schedule and seat allocation for the 15% AIQ seats. Whereas, State Medical Counselling releases notification for the counselling of the 85% State Quota seats.

 

Many coaching classes releases answer key for all NEET question papers on the same day, Candidates can calculate the expected marks for NEET 2024 through:

• NEET Cutoff

• COUNSELLING PROCESS

The NEET Counselling process is generally confusing for candidates. Let us understand the NEET Counselling process in simple terms.

First things candidates need to keep in mind is that NTA does not conduct any counselling.

The role of NTA is limited to conducting NEET examination and result declaration.

 

From here onwards, many other institutes takes up the charge of the admission process. According to this, there are three types of counselling: Central, State & AYUSH.

 

• CENTRAL / ALL INDIA QUOTA (AIQ) COUNSELLING:

All the Central and Deemed Universities such as AIIMS, Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) & Banaras Hindu University (BHU) are included in this counselling process.

And 15 percent of seats of all the government medical and dental colleges are filled through Central counselling.

Candidates from all over India can participate in the AIQ Counselling, without having a Domicile or Residency Certificate in that location.

• STATE QUOTA COUNSELLING:

State Quota Counselling is responsible for the counselling of the remaining 85 per cent seats of Government Medical and Dental Colleges. 

The state quota seats are reserved for the candidates domiciled in that particular state only. Candidates residing in other states are not eligible to participate in State Quota Counselling Process.

This counselling in every state is conducted by a representative authority of the State Governmnet.

• AYUSH COUNSELLING:

The AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC), which is a separate body,  conducts counselling for the AYUSH courses such as BAMS, BHMS, BUMS, BSMS.

This committee conducts the admission process for all the Deemed AYUSH Universities in India

Along with these 15 per cent seats of Government, Government-aided, Central, National and Private Colleges will also be filled in this counselling.

• DOCUMENTS REQUIRED FOR COUNSELLING

Candidates will be required to present the following essential documents which are:

• NEET Exam Admit Card
• NEET Rank Letter
• Class 10/12 certificate and marksheet
• ID Proof
• Domicile Proof (only for State Quota Seats)

At last, if a candidate wants to pursue medicine without NEET, they can pursue courses like Pharmacy, Nursing, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, and Forensic Science.

Q1. Is it mandatory to pursue NEET exam for MBBS?

Ans. Yes, qualifying NEET is prerequisite for pursuing MBBS

Q2. Can we pursue MBBS abroad without giving the NEET exam?

Ans. No, qualifying NEET is compulsory for Indian candidates to pursue MBBS abroad, to ensure that all medical professionals meet a minimum standard of medical education.

Q3. What are the minimum eligibility requirements/qualifications for NEET?

Ans. Students must have received 50% marks in Physics, Chemistry, Biology/ Biotechnology & English in Class 12.

Q4.  What if I have lost my NEET admit card?

Q5. Question: What is the meaning of percentile rank?Ans. A percentile rank is the percentage of the score that falls below a given score in a group. The Percentile score can be calculated as follows:

 

100 x Number of candidates appeared with a raw score equal to or less than the candidate/ Total number of candidates appeared.

Q6. Question: What is the difference between NEET scorecard and NEET rank letter 2024?

Ans. NEET score card is the result of a candidate that is displayed on the official website. The information such as candidate’s name, category, percentile score, all India rank, and NEET cutoff marks 2024 will be mentioned on it.

Candidates who will be included in the 15% All India Quota category seat allotment process will be eligible to download the rank letter. The rank letter will contain 15% AIQ merit rank, category-wise rank, total and subject-wise scores of candidates.

Q7. Question: How will the NEET 2024 cut off be determined and what will be the expected cut off for the year 2024?

Answer: The cut off of NEET-UG 2024 will be released along with the result. However, the cut off will be determined on the following factors:

• Total number of candidates appeared for the entrance test
• The exam difficulty level.
• Seats available under each category and college

Only after the conclusion of the entrance test, the experts of coaching institutes will prepare the cut off of NEET-UG based on the above-mentioned factors, which will be available as soon as it is released

Q8. Question: What will be the tie-breaking rule if two candidates score equal marks?
Ans. If two or more candidates score equal marks in NEET UG 2024, the below-mentioned tie-breaking rule will be applied to provide fair ranking.

• Candidates securing higher marks/percentile score in biology (botany and zoology) in NEET exam will be given first preference.
• Candidates with higher marks/percentile score in chemistry will be given next preference.
• Followed by, candidates obtaining higher marks/percentile score in physics in the exam.
• The next preference will be given to candidates with less proportion of the number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in all the subjects.
• Candidates with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in Biology (Botany and Zoology) will be preferred.
• If the tie is not resolved, candidates with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in chemistry will secure rank.
• In case tie still remains, candidates with less proportion of a number of attempted incorrect answers and correct answers in physics in the test.

Q9. Can I withdraw my NEET application form? Will I get a refund for it?

Ans. No. Once the application form is submitted, it could not be withdrawn or canceled. Also, the application fee for NEET 2024 is non-refundable.

Q10. Can I appear for NEET 2024 even if I am older than 25 years?

Ans. Yes, candidates can appear in the exam even if they are older than 25 years as the upper age limit for NEET 2024 has been removed by the competent authority. Candidates are required to have attained the age of 17 years as of December 31, 2024, and must fulfill all other eligibility criteria.
