Due to heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu, the government has declared holidays for schools and colleges situated in the districts of Tirunelveli, Thoothukudi, Kanyakumari, and Tenkasi. The weather department has predicted heavy to weighty rainfall in the upcoming days. The various districts of the state have witnessed adverse rainfall. Palayamkottai and Kanyakumari have also recorded rainfall of 26 and 17cm.
Also, various districts have witnessed severe water logging and rising water levels of lakes and rivers, which cause hindrances in day-to-day lives. To counter the overflow of drainage sandbags are used, and JCB Machines have been deployed on the river side of the impacted areas. More than 40 lakes in Kovilpatti overflowed and created damage to its local houses.
For safety and precaution, the government has deployed forces, national disaster forces, etc. Because of the situation, Anna University has also postponed the exam. Also, the government has provided shelter camps to flood-affected people.
The authorities note that no major damage is reported nor any individual harmed or deaths reported. Still, somehow domestic animals and cattle have been lost in this heavy rainfall.
The IMD department has declared an orange alert for the next two days in the districts of Koolipatti, Inam Maniyachi, and Kovilpatti. They also requested to stay inside the houses.
