JEE Main - 2024 Everything to know

The National Testing Agency (NTA) is  an independent, autonomous, and self-sustained premier testing organization that was established by the Ministry of Education (MOE), Government of India (GOI) under the Societies Registration Act (1860). It conducts efficient, transparent, and international standardized tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admission to premier higher education institutions.

NTA has been entrusted with the responsibility of conducting the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) from 2019 and onward by The Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education, Government of India.

When it comes to the JEE Main Exam, it comprises 2 papers, Paper 1 is conducted for admission to undergraduate engineering programs (B.E. / B.Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), and Institutions / Universities funded / recognized by participating State Governments. JEE Main is also an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission in IITs.

Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B. Arch and B. Planning courses in the country.

The JEE (Main) 2023 was conducted in 2 (two) sessions for admissions in the current academic session. The JEE Main 2024 is also expected to be conducted in the same manner. The candidates will benefit in the following ways -

  1. This will give two opportunities to the candidates to improve their scores in the examination if they are not able to give their best in one attempt.
  2. In the first attempt, the students will get first-hand experience of taking an examination. This will help them identify mistakes and rectify them or make changes in their approach  while attempting for the second time.
  3. Reduces the chances of students dropping a year.
  4. If anyone missed a session of the examination, due to unforeseen circumstances, then he/she will have a valid attempt in the next session, which will prevent them to wait for one entire year.
  5. A candidate may not appear in both Sessions. However, if a candidate appears in more than one Session then his/her best of the JEE (Main) NTA Scores will be considered for preparation of the Merit List/ Ranking.

There are different parts in the JEE Main Exam, all of these are done in Computer Based Test (CBT) mode, except for the Drawing Test (Part III) in Paper 2A (B. Arch), which is to be attempted on a drawing sheet of A4 size.
