Government Erode Medical College and Hospital (GEMCH), Perundurai, Erode district, Tamil Nadu, is a major government medical college with an affiliation to the Tamil Nadu Dr. M.G.R. Medical University. It started in 1992 as IRT Perundurai Medical College under the Institute of Road Transport before being overhauled by the Government of Tamil Nadu in 2019 and renamed GEMCH the college provides undergraduate (MBBS) and postgraduate medical education, with an annual intake of 100 MBBS students and postgraduate studies in General Surgery and Dermatology the campus is spread over 308.5 acres and has facilities like academic blocks, hostels, staff quarters, and a School of Nursing.
The hospital associated is made up of two major establishments: the Ramalingam Tuberculosis Sanatorium (RTS) Hospital, a 200-bed hospital started in 1939, and the GEMC Main Hospital, a tertiary care facility of more than 1,200 beds GEMCH was made an Erode district treatment center during the COVID-19 outbreak the hospital has the latest medical facilities, such as a cryogenic oxygen tank and specialized wards covered by Rotary chapters GEMCH still plays a critical role in offering quality medical education and healthcare services in the area

GEMCH offers financial help to students across different socio-economic groups. Students belonging to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, Most Backward Classes, and Backward Classes are provided with scholarships. Government assistance in the form of half the fee paid annually can also be provided to first-generation graduates, bringing down the economic burden considerably.
