Declared on August 19, 2016, by ordinance no. 7/2016, SGRDUHS is a State Private University under the Punjab Private University Policy 2010, created by Punjab Act no. 43 of 2016. It is made up of the Sri Guru Ram Das Rotary Cancer Institute (SGRDRCI), the Sri Guru Ram Das College of Nursing (SGRDCON), and the Sri Guru Ram Das Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (SGRDIMSAR). The Sri Guru Ram Das Charitable Hospital was established in 1977, and the Medical, Cancer, and Nursing Institutes followed in 1997.

The University is a byword for quality in health sciences postsecondary education. World-class facilities and pedagogy are available at every institution affiliated with this university, and they are continuously reviewed and updated to take into account the most recent advancements in higher education.
