In 1874, Patna Medical College was founded as Temple Medical School, admitting 30 students at a time for a fee of Rs. 2 for the duration of the course. Up until 1925, this pattern persisted. Subsequently, Temple Medical School was relocated to Darbhanga, and The Prince of Wales Medical College was founded to take its place. This Medical College was formally inaugurated on February 25, 1925.
The princely states of Bihar donated money to create a variety of buildings. A group of thirty-five students, known as the first batch, were moved from Prince of Wales Medical College in Patna to Medical College Bengal (formerly Calcutta Medical College, Calcutta). With good reason, this medical college is the torchbearer of medical education in Bihar. In 1932, postgraduate studies were initiated. This institution initiated postgraduate teaching in orthopedics, physiology, gynecology, and radiotherapy for the first time in all of independent India. This institution regularly offers weekly seminars in addition to integrated education that is both vertical and horizontal.
Currently connected to Aryabhatta Knowledge University in Patna is Patna Medical College.
This college serves as the backbone for the general public's access to medical education and care in both this state and the surrounding states. There is a bright future ahead of Patna Medical College, Patna, and a storied past.
