About Tongji University:

Tongji University’s antiquity goes before 1907 The Erich Paulun, a German doctor, was the originator of the  German Medical School with funding from the German government.

Later on, It was re-named as the Tongji German Medical School in 1908 and it got became a university recognition in 1923, the meaning of the word Tongji is “co-operation while in the same boat”.
