In 1960 the National Karnataka Institute of Technology (NITK) was established. It is ranked among the oldest academic institutions in India. It was formerly known as Karnataka Regional Engineering College (KREC). This widely called university is based in Mangalore and is one of the 31 NITs in India.<\/p>\n
